ABOUT KATHRYN

I’m a former engineer turned functional health practitioner obsessed with helping women get their energy back so they can fully enjoy their lives and feel their absolute best

Meet Kathryn!

FDN-P, BCHHP, BS. Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, Board-Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, owner of Becker Health.

Back in 2018 I was pretty miserable in my engineering job, and the anxiety around waking up for work led me to a downward health spiral. After going down a functional medicine rabbit hole, I worked with an acupuncturist and naturopath who ran testing to determine why I was so stressed out all the time, balanced my hormones, and helped me find answers that gave my my vitality back. I remember thinking to myself that her job seemed REALLY cool.

I was laid off during the pandemic at 8 months pregnant and took it as my sign to get into the functional medicine field. I immediately started researching, found Functional Diagnostic Nutrition, put my severance package into the course, and became certified all while learning to become a mom to my newborn son!

Fast forward to today and I’ve helped over 90 women, men, and children get to the root cause of their pesky symptoms. Oh, and I also had another baby! I couldn’t have started this company, while raising two kids without implementing all the pillars of health that I now teach to my clients - balancing hormones, nourishing the body, supporting the liver, and healing the gut. I went from tired mom who struggled to play with my kids to vibrant mom overflowing with energy.

I’m super passionate about helping others to get there as well. I know what it feels like to just feel “off” and for your doctor to tell you that you’re “fine”. I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way. I can help you find what’s going on inside your body so you can get your energy back and live a vibrant, radiant life!

It all started when my dream life didn’t feel so dreamy…

I was living what I thought was my dream. I had a high-profile engineering job working on multi-billion dollar projects, lived in London with my husband of two years, and traveled every other weekend to some of the most beautiful areas in the world - but I wasn’t happy. Every morning, dread washed over me when the alarm went off. The thought of going into work would send me into tears. Some days I would just call in sick. Every night I would lay awake staring at the ceiling unable to fall asleep. I wasn’t enjoying this “perfect” life. I didn’t feel like me at all.

Back in Texas I went to a doctor and told him I couldn’t sleep, I was moody, and I had hormonal acne. He practically laughed at me, told me I was fine, and prescribed me an anti-depressant to help me sleep at night. The pill actually worked. It was great. Until it didn’t. After a particularly awful week at work, I was on my third night in a row of literally not being able to sleep more than 2 or 3 hours. I was crying in bed and searched in google for “functional medicine near me” (I had been getting really into Goop podcasts where they interviewed lots of doctors in this space - something I hadn’t heard of before).

But then everything changed…

A few hours later, I was laying on the table of an acupuncturist / naturopath begging for sleep and answers. She was able to give me some relief that day through the needles, and came up with a plan on how to get to the root cause of my insomnia and stress. After getting some testing done, she wrote me a protocol with dietary changes and supplements. She even researched the pill I was on telling me it was illegal to prescribe in the UK due to the side effects!

Instead of telling me I was fine, she had empathy for my situation and found healing opportunities. She gave me hope and got my life back.

I knew that if I ever switched careers, I wanted to do what she was doing.

That day came sooner than I thought when I was let go during the pandemic. I quickly signed up for the FDN course which taught me even more about how to heal and correct imbalances. As part of the course we had to run functional labs and work with a clinical advisor to get a protocol for ourselves. I was 8 months postpartum at the time of the protocol and saw incredible results. My hormonal acne that I had since puberty vanished, and I dropped 15 pounds of stubborn weight. As I ran more tests and did further protocols I no longer had any issues with sleep that had plagued me my whole life, and my energy skyrocketed.

Now I’m able to be the best version of myself for my family AND help others

Through practicing what I preach, I’ve been able to heal my chronic symptoms and fatigue. I have more energy than I’ve ever had for my family. I get out of bed with vitality and life force to be there for my kids. I don’t fear future disease because I know I have the knowledge and tools to always keep my body humming.

Since I’ve gone through fatigue, anxiety, burnout, and frustration with the medical system myself I am better able to serve my clients. My engineering background gives me an edge that allows me to dig really deep into the data of intake forms, nutrition levels, and functional labs to paint a picture of what’s going on inside the body and create a plan on how to make your symptoms go away.

I want to be for you what my acupuncturist was for me. An empathetic sounding board with plans instead of pills and care instead of contempt. Helping people is my true passion, and I want to help as many people as possible feel as good as I feel.
